Last updated 26 August 2026. Written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. Nine Pockets stores your card collection so it can show up on your other phone and survive a lost one. It is not free because you are the product — it is free because a paid tier pays for it. Nothing here is sold, and there are no advertising or tracking scripts anywhere in the app.
What is stored
- Your collection — the cards you add, their numbers, sets, conditions and prices, and how you have arranged your binder.
- Card photos — the pictures you take of your own cards, if you are signed in. They are kept so a new phone can get them back.
- Your email address, from whichever sign-in you chose. That is the whole of your account.
- A small usage record — how many cards you have, when the app last saved, which devices are yours, and how many cards have been read. This is what the "is everything saving?" screen is built from.
- Problem reports — when something breaks, the app files what broke: the error, the app version, and a device label like "iPhone · home screen". Never any card data.
- Trade alerts — if you turn them on, a push token for that phone or browser, so a trade offer can reach it. It is stored against your account only after you press Turn on, removed when you press Turn off, and never used for anything else. A notification says who and how many cards, never which.
What is never stored
- No advertising identifiers, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics scripts inside the app.
- No payment card details. If you subscribe, a payments provider handles that and we never see the numbers.
- No contacts, location, microphone, or camera roll access beyond the photo you choose to take of a card.
Children
Nine Pockets is built for families who collect together, and one of its two original users is six years old. That shapes the rule:
- Accounts belong to adults. A child does not get their own account and cannot create one.
- A kid is a profile inside a parent's account — their own collection, their own binder, under an adult's sign-in.
- Kid mode hides money and carries no tracking of any kind. Nothing is measured about a child, no email is ever sent to one, and no advertising is shown to anyone.
If you believe a child has created an account despite this, write to NinepocketsSupport@gmail.com and it will be deleted.
Who else sees any of it
Nine Pockets runs on Netlify, which hosts the site and stores your collection. Sign-in runs through Supabase, and through Google or Apple if you choose those. Reading a card from a photo sends that photo to Anthropic's API to identify the card. Prices come from public card data. That is the entire list, and none of them are given your collection to use for their own purposes.
The website
The marketing pages — this one included — may use privacy-friendly analytics that counts visits without cookies and without following anyone between sites. The app itself carries no such script.
Your data is yours
- Take it with you — the app can export your collection.
- Delete it — Settings → Delete my account removes the account and everything under it, photos included, from inside the app. Or ask, and it is done for you.
- Ask what is held — write and you will get a straight answer.
One honest note: deleted collections are removed from the live store, and copies may persist briefly in routine backups before they age out.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app says so. It will not change quietly.
